From the estate

Tasting at Château des Poupets

A visit to Les Poupets is a hillside welcome — cellar light, estate wines, and time enough to ask how the vintage was grown.

Arriving at Les Poupets

The château sits above Juliénas beside the chapel, with vines close enough to walk. Guests come for a tasting, an overnight stay, or both. You are not funnelled through a crowded shop floor; the point is to meet the wines where they are made, with the Saône valley under the windows.

What you will taste

Expect Juliénas at the centre — Gamay from this Cru, in the style of the current releases. Beside it we often pour a Bourgogne white for contrast, and Clos des Poupets Crémant when you want bubbles from the estate. The sequence is simple: still red for the hill, white for freshness, sparkling for celebration. Ask which parcel or élevage shaped each bottle; the label is only the opening line.

What to expect in practice

Tastings are by appointment so we can give you time. Come curious, not hurried. Spit or swallow as you prefer; we would rather you remember the drive home. Comfortable shoes help if you want a short walk among the rows. Children and dogs are welcome when the visit stays calm around the cellar work.

How to book

Write ahead with your preferred day, party size, and whether you are staying overnight. Harvest and the third Thursday of November fill quickly. If you are looping the Crus, tell us your route — we can time the tasting so Juliénas anchors the day rather than competing with it.

A tasting at Château des Poupets should feel like hospitality on a working estate: clear glasses, honest wines, and a hill that explains itself.
